"pai'i" is much more clearly connected to both the English and Greek
pronunciations of "pi", is more similar to "pai" (which facilitates
relearning), and follows the common pattern of repeating the off-glide for
cmavo which are generated in such manner (see "tau'u"). This word is not
very obvious to me even in retrospect.
