I'm not sure kantu is the best gismu for this. Although the word "ray" is
mentioned there, kantu refers to a quantum; a unit. guska'u refers to a
photon, for instance.

I think it's best to start from xy zei gusni, then build from there.

Remember that gismu are sometimes vague, this is by intention. So kantu
can mean both ?ray? and ?quantum?. xy zei kantu used the ?ray?
interpretation.

I accept however the alternative xy zei gusni.

Yeah, you're right about that. Still, that is "ray" as in "ray of light".
Still not quite the correct sense for talking about X-rays in general.
