Discussion of "uaigryspe"

Curtis W Franks (Thu Dec 17 07:58:32 2020)

"bavyspe" implies that the primary subject will be the spouse of the
secondary subject in the future, but does not indicate for how long (maybe
they are in divorce proceedings) nor whether they currently are or have
been in the past. This word emphatically states that the spousal
relationship will be in the future but is not currently existent (thus,
pending divorce is not an option); it does not exclude the possibility
that such a relationship has been true in the past for the given subjects
(remarriage implies a once-and-future spouse, and is allowed by this

Comment #2: tanru order of the veljvo
Curtis W Franks (Thu Dec 17 08:04:39 2020)

I am somewhat more in favor of "speni .uaigre" than of ".uaigre speni",
but the former had morphological issues/concerns. I think that this
construction can be justified by taking the view that Lojban treats all
times somewhat equally or elliptically; "speni" does not mean simply
"(current) spouse" but also "future spouse". Thus, this construction
specifies that the 'tense', so to speak, is future and not current (with
no implication about the past), meaning that the type of spousal
relationship here is a future-and-not-current spousal one.
