Discussion of "braxiiura"

Jonathan (Fri Aug 21 15:23:43 2015)

Is it wise to define "crab" with a fu'ivla for infraorder Brachyura? Quoth
Wikipedia:

"Many other animals with similar names ? such as hermit crabs, king crabs,
porcelain crabs, horseshoe crabs and crab lice ? are not true crabs." (i.e.
not in Brachyura)

Except for crab lice and possibly horseshoe crab, we might have a case of
scientific and laic taxonomy clashing here, just like using "bug" to refer
to Hemiptera. I doubt the average Joe would be able to look at hermit
crabs, king crabs, and porcelain crabs, and be able to tell right away that
they are not "true crabs".

Btw, I suggest karkino as an alternative fu'ivla.
