Or, for that matter, how «.a'y fa'u'ai by broda zy fa'u'ai by» should be
interpreted (although the syntax at least is clear in this case).

Comment #3: Re: Operation when mixed in with fa'u

I don't know about the usefulness of this cmavo, but...

Seems to me fa'u is associative, and fa'u'ai is associative, but in
combination they are not associative. Connectives are left-associative
(see CLL 14.7).

fa'u(fa'u(fa'u(A, B), C), D) broda fa'u'ai(fa'u'ai(fa'u'ai(Z, Y), X), W)
fa'u(fa'u(fa'u(A, B), C), D) broda fa'u'ai(fa'u'ai(fa'u(Y, Z), X), W)
fa'u(fa'u(fa'u(A, B), C), D) broda fa'u'ai(fa'u(X, fa'u(Y, Z)), W)
fa'u(fa'u(fa'u(A, B), C), D) broda fa'u(W, fa'u(X, fa'u(Y, Z)))

So I guess it works out to "A-B-C-D broda W-X-Y-Z". (If done in speech, it
may also work out to your te cusku punching you in the face.)

Seems to me it would be the same as "A-B broda Z-B" (or "B-A broda B-Z").

I agree.
(I use this word('s equivalent) frequently enough in English.)
