Discussion of "de'a'ai"

Curtis W Franks (Tue Nov 15 18:41:38 2016)

So, like "brb" ("be right back")/"bbs" ("be back soon"), "can I put you on
hold?", or "hold on", roughly?

Yes it's *roughly* equivalent to "brb", but it doesn't have quite the same
connotation of "don't worry, it won't be long, I promise I'll return soon,"
instead it's only implied that the conversation will at some point
continue, not exactly when. Sometimes the English equivalent would be more
like "let's finish talking about this later, I've got to go." To make
explicit the "I intend to return shortly" part of the meaning of "brb" you
could use for instance xrubazi, like: de'a'ai mi'e xrubazi
