Discussion of "kanvasa"

Curtis W Franks (Thu Feb 13 07:46:20 2014)

Thick durable fabric? (Along the lines of "silk", etc. for general
category of meaning?)
Or is it more like a painting canvas? Something else?

Is there really a difference between those first two substances? (I am no
expert on the latter.)
How much of a semantic range does this word have?

1. A type of coarse cloth, woven from hemp, useful for making sails and
tents or as a surface for paintings.
2. A piece of canvas cloth stretched across a frame on which one may
paint.

I think the second meaning is a particular case of the first one. So I'm
making the definition more precise. If you have another suggestions for
the sounding please add them. This is a clearly Englishy word.
