Why does this word exist at all? What's wrong with mapku that this is
trying to remedy?

They are quite different though: mapku is an object-material word, while
sedyta'u is an object-user-purpose word.

Even if they did have the same place structure, that still doesn't mean
the lujvo has no reason to exist: you may want "sedyta'u" for a rhyme, for
example.
